Spring Innitiatives: Renewing our Community.
Earthday Health Innitiatives:
Celebrate Earth Day by cleaning out your medicine cabinet, having your blood pressure checked, and riding your bike to church.
On April 23rd, Earth Sunday, the parish nurse team will be partnering with the Champaign Police Department to collect expired and unused prescription medications and over the counter drugs for disposal. This one day medication take-back project will provide a no-cost anonymous collection of unwanted and expired medications. Medications in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning. Flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our environment and water. This is the safest and most responsible way to dispose of unwanted and expired medications thus protecting your family, home, environment and preventing pollution of our water.
Guidelines:
1. Medications are to left in their contrainers with labels removed and/or identifying information crossed out. We will then empty them into a plastic bag and crush them prior to taking them to the police department. Containers will be disiposed of in the trash.
2. No aerosols or nebulizers
3. No needles
4. Liquids are to be left in their original containers
In addition there will be a pharmacist available to answer any medication questions you may have. Blood pressure checks will also be done.
See Parish Nurse bulletin board and cabinet for a variety of information on health and safety resources for our community. If you would like to help with this mission committee; which provides food, rides, or other assistance to our community please contact Sharon Taylor at [email protected].
