It is time once again for raising the annual $6000.00 needed to support our sister
churches of Smilovichi and Cherven, Belarus. In this season of Lent we ask you to
prayerfully consider a sacrificial offering for Belarus. Could you offer $500 to cover one
month, $200 to cover one pastor for one month, or $100 to cover our interpreter for one
month, or perhaps half a month or one week. There is a small (birdhouse) church in the
narthex where each of us can place our sacrificial offerings. We will be holding our Cel-
ebration Dinner with an Auction of fantastic baked goods, services, and donated items on
April 14 th . Mark your calendars! Consider what you can give sacrificially to help your fel-
low brothers and sisters in Belarus! To quote from an article from Christian Century,
“What if we reframed our Lenten discipline to tune into the moments when we do the
right things for the wrong reasons? This is, I think, in keeping with Jesus’ advice to us in
the Ash Wednesday reading from Matthew 6 about how we inhabit our piety.” In this
Year C, it gives us “ a chance to scrutinize the rationales” we “use for” our “lifestyle
choices.” “The real test: following Jesus wherever He might lead” us.
