The District Office building is located on the northern edge of Selma Herndon Elementary School. The location on B Street is close to downtown and can be found easily. Parking, however, is hard to find when the existing undersized parking lot is full. The parking lot is one-direction with slanted parking stalls. This requires a driver to enter only one drive entry and exit the other.
A larger parking lot is required, and it is suggested that the parking contain 90-degree parking stalls, which allow the traffic to use both drive approaches. 90-degree parking is also more efficient than angled parking. The steeper the parking angle the less efficient the parking lot capacity.
The District Office building is a comfortable building for its size. The issue with the building is that it’ s too small for the number of employees it houses. Many of the employees should have private offices for personnel and privacy issues, but the current rooms are all shared by multiple occupants. The building can either be expanded with a building addition, or some of the employees moved out of the building to another suitable location. The idea of a building addition was reviewed in the Steering Sub-Committee, but it was determined it would be better to move some of the employees into the space now used by the Board Room.
Building BO( Business Office) has thee( 3) offices and a large space used as a Board Room. In the Board Room space, there is enough room four( 4) offices at around 130 square feet each. Adjacent hallways would serve as interior circulation and contain a 30-foot long working counter space and 20-feet of full height storage cabinets. It is suggested that the“ Board Room” be located at the Prusso Child Development Center building or other suitable space.
The District Office building could use some remodeling in a few spots. Some of the existing spaces can be reconfigured to be more suitable in size and function. The Superintendent’ s conference room would increase in size from 250 square feet to 410 square feet in size, and more suitable for meetings with up to 12 people. The two non-accessible toilet rooms would be combined into one accessible unisex toilet stall, about 90 square feet in size. The Technology MDF room serves the District Office buildings and the Selma Herndon school site. The Technology room would be increased in size to accommodate equipment / parts storage, with a dedicated cooling system required for the server equipment. The staff work room would be relocated from the back of the building adjacent the front office reception. The new proximity of the work room would be more suitable for the front office and other staff using this space at the core of the office. The only new square footage would be a 300 square foot building addition. The addition would allow the Superintendent to have a secure storage room for private records, and two toilet rooms would be included that could accessed from the exterior of the building.
