Highly talented metalsmith Tedd McDonah has
an obsession with lures, but not in the usual way.
The Pennsylvania USA-based artist uses reclaimed
materials to hand-make stunning lures that not
only look extremely cool but also catch fish. One of
the lure types he creates that really caught our eye
are spoons built using vintage cans – but there’s a
bit more to it than that, as Tedd told us.
“I make them using a combination of cans and
copper,” Tedd explains. “The copper side of things
is straightforward enough. I cut them to the right
shape using a jeweller’s saw before they’re heated
with a torch to achieve a dull red glow and then
quenched in water. This process is annealing and
softens them prior to the pieces being pressed into
the required shape.
