continued chaotic process of finding , creating , destroying and repeating . The visibly darker section addressed issues such as fears , insecurities , temptations and turbulence that humans experience in the world around us . As Josephians who have left their alma mater after graduation , Journey traversed some of the difficulties that we have experienced after leaving the safety net of SJI . Other works by Glen Heng ( Class of 2009 ) and Ernest were also featured in this section .
Resting on the former altar of the chapel was the last section , Freedom . It featured works by Bryan Tan ( Class of 2008 ), Lee Chuan ( Class of 2008 ), Esmond Loh ( Class of 2011 ), Flo Yeow ( Class of 2006 ), Nicholas Leong ( Class of 2008 ), Alvin and me . The art on display here were imbued with a sense of liberation , aptly so since the altar was also once a place of spiritual celebration and deliverance .
Being allowed to exhibit our artworks at the chapel of SAM was a wonderful experience that allowed us to reignite the Josephian spirit that is unique to all who pass through the school as students , staff and faculty . It was also rewarding to see that a decision shared by all Josephians who decided to take art in SJI had finally paid off in the form of an exhibition that was supported by the school . Many years of hard work , belief and passionate tutelage by the art teachers , Mrs Pennie Ong and Mrs Vivian Tan Lai Kuen led to the growth of creativity that flowed through the chapel space from 3 to 6 September 2013 .
Taking down the artworks and watching exhibition panels come down on the final day was bittersweet and left me with much hope for the future of art in SJI . Its relevance as a platform for conversations was evident during Creation not just between visitors but also between visitors and the artworks on display . There is much to be gained in terms of fostering culture , establishing an identity and reliving memories that art can do and has done for the Josephian community . I hope Creation will not be the last of its kind .
