Collared Kingfisher by Kieran Krygsman The Collared Kingfisher is a common sight in Singapore and from my experience has grown more common over the years . Common Kingfisher by Nithil Chakravarthy Thirumurug The Common Kingfisher is a rather uncommon migrant we have here in Singapore that comes all the way from Europe where they are more commonly seen around and thus its name . They are often observed perching on vantage points overlooking water bodies such as stakes , signboards and even handrails . They feed predominantly on fish , which they catch by diving off these vantage points into the water . It is usually found around the various parks here in Singapore from August to March and this particular Queen was spotted nearby SJI at the Singapore Botanic Gardens hunting for its morning breakfast secured tightly in its beak .
Greater Coucal by Nithil Chakravarthy Thirumurug The Greater Coucal is one of the two Coucal species we have in Singapore and come under the Cuckoo family . They are considered to be an uncommon resident and are known to be very skittish and hard to shoot . This particular Coucal here was spotted in Goldhill as well just behind our school . It was actually carrying some nesting materials in its beak back to build their nests to reproduce and sustain their declining population due to deforestation .
