Even as the world continues to battle against the newer cousins of Delta and Omicron from COVID-19 , the year seems to have finally begun on a happier note for many as the nation slowly moved towards the lifting of social restrictions in the community and the reopening of the borders for international travel . After a severe drought of sporting action across schools over the last two years , the longawaited National School Games have resumed to almost full swing , to the delight of many enthusiastic sportsmen and their fans .
This year also marks a special occasion for both the Lasallian community in Asia as well as for SJI , as we gather to celebrate 170 years of establishment by the Brothers of the Christian Schools in this part of the world . Without the first six La Salle Brothers who bravely set sail from Europe to establish schools in the Far East , there would be no SJI and other Lasallian schools in Asia today . Just like how our Founder St John Baptist de La Salle inspired others to teach and care for young people , to meet failure and frailty with compassion , to affirm , strengthen and heal , those who have been educated in Lasallian schools have passed on this passion and beliefs and left their mark around the world .
We hope you will be inspired by the stories in this issue of how lives have changed because they too have been transformed and influenced by our Founder , a Lasallian educator or a fellow student .

“ Ignite ” is the first in the series of 5 site-specific murals in SJI that showcases the significant moments in the life of the Founder . Located at the driveway near the Foyer , this artwork was unveiled by Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean ( Class of 1972 ) at the SJI 170th Anniversary Parade on 8 April .
