As the end of 2020 looms ahead on the horizon , we take stock of an unprecedented year of a sobering loss of lives , livelihoods and light ( literal and figurative ) as the COVID-19 virus scythes its way across continents and countries . As waves of viral infection overtake both rich and poor nations , political leaders and ordinary folks struggle to understand and manage this phenomenon , the very stuff of post-apocalypse novels and films .

In SJI , taking its cue from the Ministry of Education , classes and extracurricular activities were curtailed during the Circuit Breaker , and adapted when school resumed in June this year . In this issue of LUMEN , we highlight the indefatigable spirit of the school community in delivering not just the curriculum to our students , but also ensuring disruptions and interruptions can be transformed into opportunities for meaningful learning and generous sharing .
As I write this , the national public announcement from the government of Phase 3 commencing on 28 December is an implicit acknowledgement of the nation turning a corner in our response to the viral affliction . Similarly , in this issue of Lumen , we recognize some of our efforts in responding to the crisis in a way that are opportunities to grow our sympathies and compassion for others within and beyond SJI , that reflects the school values of Faith , Service and Community .
We hope you enjoy this issue of Lumen . Wishing all our readers a very Blessed Christmas and peaceful New Year in 2021 ! Ora et Labora !
