Year 1 & 2s collect used clothes and shoes for recycling

Members of the Legion of Mary ( Refuge of Sinners ) led the Lent project to collect old clothes , shoes and materials to be recycled through two collection drives held over a fortnight . These items are to be given to Greensquare , a recycling company that will provide a new lease of life for these textiles . Many of the students participated passionately in the collection and the team was heartened that they were able to amass many bags of clothes and other textiles by the end of the collection drives .

Year 3 & 4s collect electronic items and old reusable phones

The collection of electronic items for recycling was aimed at inspiring Josephians to reflect and take action to change their undesirable consumer habits by decreasing the amount of waste . From creating awareness to campaigning for the donations , the Green Club was in charge of the collection of electronic waste for recycling and old phones and chargers donated for reuse . All unusable or obsolete electronic items will be brought to TES , the largest e-waste recycling company in Singapore , where they will be separated into different components and repurposed . Some of these components have precious metals that can be recycled for other uses , thus reducing mining activities .

Year 5 & 6s plant trees

The Ecology Club led the Lent Project for Year 5 and 6 classes where they envisioned donating and planting a tree while creating a planter box made out of recycled materials . Before this could be done , the students in each Tutor Group ( TG ) would have to design their planter boxes using the template provided .

The TGs were supposed to plant their chosen plant ( Cuphea , Curry Tree . Lantana , Ginger and Ixora ) into the planters . This was then to be placed in Level 5 at Blocks A and B to create a green impact along the classroom . Unfortunately , before this was allowed to transpire , the project was to be postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus .
Although the planter boxes could not be completed , the process of getting the TGs to work together was more significant than the results . The Ecology Club has , through the process , also gained experience and look forward to the future projects that come their way .
