While actual work on a heritage gallery began in 2018 , the seed to establish one was planted a few years earlier in 2016 when SJI was operating in the holding campus at Bishan . Although , the project was put on hold , but it was not forgotten . An opportunity presented itself in 2018 when the nation began preparations for the commemoration of the Singapore Bicentennial in 2019 and the school decided that it was the right time to set up the gallery .
