13 consensus-building , even as they navigate through tenuous conflicts in their councils .
Growing in strength and widely recognised as a reputable event in the MUN circle among the local schools , this conference was entirely a studentinitiated effort , organised by the leaders of the Society of International and Current Affairs , a Creativity , Activity and Service group in SJI ( senior section ). A core team of 30 student leaders and 35 volunteers ran the conference helming seven different councils : General Assembly , World Health Organisation , Human Rights , Historical Security Crisis , Security Council , Kingsman Council and Futuristic Council debating contentious issues and pressing problems of the world , attempting to find creative and sustainable solutions through dialogue and consensus building .
Two of SJIMUN ’ s niche councils , Kingsmen Council and Futuristic Council , were a key part of this year ’ s conference . In the Kingsmen Council , delegates represented their countries ' intelligence agency , rather than the country itself , and faced an onslaught of crises . In the Futuristic Council , delegates had to deal with a future world , and tackle an energy crisis while grappling with unexpected developments .
The conference which was attended by over 200 students from junior colleges and secondary schools such as Raffles Institution , Anglo Chinese School , NUS High , Victoria Junior College , Temasek Junior College , Nanyang Girls and Singapore Chinese Girls , who were engaged in invigorating debate .
The theme of the 2016 conference was Non ducor , duco which means ‘ I am not led , I lead ’. It espoused the ideals of the organising team to promote youth activism and global citizenry ...
