Faculty of Law . He is eagerly anticipating his entry into the Singapore Police Force ; his enthusiasm for policing was palpable during his interview with Lumen . After all , it is the thought of his future career in the police force that motivates him to study well . As the Fintan House captain during his time in SJI Senior School , Ryan left a lasting impression on the SJI community as being one who was competitive in the sports arena , but one who also knew how to have fun . As an Orientation Group Leader ( OGL ), he is warmly remembered as having helped the JC 1s integrate into the school by cracking jokes to lighten the atmosphere and encouraging them to take part in activities . Being in such an inclusive SJI community was one of the things that Ryan remembers most fondly . He credits his friends and his teachers for guiding and giving him the impetus to blossom to his fullest potential .
Syafiq did not expect to be offered the PSC scholarship after the panel interview - notorious for throwing people off guard and making them uncomfortable - as he was ambivalent about it . Even though he did not know all the answers , his sincerity for caring for the people around him must have shone through , because days later , he received word regarding the offer of the scholarship . While highly driven and ambitious in his academic pursuits , Syafiq is remembered for being sensitive to the needs of the people around him , and often cracked jokes to lighten the mood and encourage his peers . This made leaving SJI all the more difficult for him , because the family that he had in school was one that he looked forward to seeing every morning , and did not want to leave in the evening . The Head of
Senior School , Mr Nick Moughtin , had to chase his friends and him out of the Senior School block almost every evening ! Although Syafiq has not decided on his university yet , he is definite about reading Chemistry .
Haqeem graduated from SJI at Secondary Four in 2012 , and went on to Temasek Junior College , where he was the President of the Students ’ Council . Although he did not complete his Pre-University education in SJI for the last two years , he is fondly remembered by teachers , who described him as personable and helpful , never without a ready smile . Currently studying Economics with Statistics at the National University of Singapore , Haqeem had always wanted to work in the public sector , having been inspired by the way that his mother and grandmother – both teachers – are able to influence lives through their work in the civil service . Like countless others who walked through the halls of SJI , the best memories that he has of the school was the time spent with friends and teachers , learning how to learn and learning how to live ( albeit only after getting up to mischief sometimes !). These are the qualities that he feels set Josephians apart ; in his words
“ Sometimes you can just tell they ’ re a fellow Josephian , you know ?”
