his studies after SJI while Timothy went to Anglo Chinese Junior College . Both scored six distinctions for their ‘ A ’ Levels .
Timothy acknowledges ‘ effort was invested heavily by SJI to identify their inherent strengths and nurture them .’ For him , it was through the Talent Development Programme for English which opened a lot of doors . He says , ‘ I was given many chances to learn outside the ‘ O ’ Level curriculum and gratefully took advantage of the special projects and essay competitions offered .’
We are proud that in the 2010 GCE ' A ' Level examinations , Josephians from the Class of 2008 who went on to some of the nation ' s top junior colleges have attained stellar results .
A notable mention goes to Kevin Martens Wong , who achieved distinctions in all his subjects . Kevin was an active and prominent student , both in CJC and in St Joseph ’ s Institution ( SJI ). In his secondary school days , he was a member of the SJI Hockey Team , the President of the Legion of Mary , the Head of Affairs in the Prefectorial Board , and a Peer Support Facilitator . His active involvement extended to his College days , where he continued on as a member of the Hockey Team , became the Vice-President of the Catholic Activities Wing in the Student Council EXCO , was part of the Youth Olympic Games Ambassador , and also the English Language
Elective Programme Scholar in 2009 . With a long list of achievements , he remains humble and rooted in his values , attributing his success to God and his alma mater .
When asked what he feels is unique about being educated in SJI , he attributes it to the Catholic environment , specifically the Lasallian culture . It creates a strong sense of identity and belonging which cannot be reproduced anywhere else . This Josephian identity is distinct even after the boys have graduated from school . It is also this identity that reinforces the importance of ‘ family ’ and community , which Kevin attempts to promote and create , wherever he goes .
Two other Josephians , Alvin Adrian Wijaya and Timothy Kwok agreed SJI has helped them in their journey as a student . They attest to the holistic and responsive Josephian Programme which provides opportunities for individual growth . Alvin , an Indonesian scholar continued
“

This Josephian identity is distinct even after the boys have graduated from school .
Alvin had also benefitted from the wideranging programmes offered . It was through his Co-Curricular Activity Micromouse that he found his ‘ deep-lying interest in robotics and engineering .’ That had given him the opportunity to explore and excel in this field , consequently leading him to obtain a Direct School Admission offer from HCI , followed by a scholarship to study engineering at Cornell University . He emphasizes , “ The opportunities that SJI provides are limitless , even for international students .”
SJI ’ s strong emphasis on character building and development is underpinned by the three core values : faith , service , and community which featured prominently in the responses of the Josephians who were interviewed .
