Holiday Traditions
I
love the holidays, and I try to keep them
stress-free and fun with a focus on giving
back. Here are a few things I do during
the holidays you might want to try:

I used to bake holiday cookies every year and give them out to neighbors and friends as an easy holiday gift. Since I have so many friends
with dogs, I switched to making healthy homemade dog treats and giving
them out instead. Dogs love them, and my neighbors and friends are
relieved not to be tempted with more holiday treats. It’s even inspired
some of them to make dog treats themselves!

Many rescues ask for financial support of a special rescue pet during
the holidays, one that needs a little more care and love. We choose
one (so hard to choose just one!) and make a donation for his or her
care.You can even make him his own stocking full of toys and treats.

De-clutter and give back at the same time. Go through your pet’s
things and make a pile of stuff he doesn’t use. Pick items that are
gently used, wash them, and donate them to your local rescue. Better yet,
tell your neighbors what you’re up to and get donations from them too!

Nothing is prettier than holiday lights. Grab your furry friends and go
to “that neighborhood,” the one with the best lights, and take your
dogs on their nightly walk. If walking your dogs in a new neighborhood
doesn’t put them on their best behavior, try taking them for a fun car ride
through the neighborhood.The change of scenery and some fun holiday
downtime will do you all good.
