The images are stabilized using AGFA silver
image stabilizer, some used toners, where color
change would not effect the result. But, all
one needs to stabilize a silver image is water.
Water is surer as a stabilizer than anything else.
Washing an image for two to three hours instead
of one, is a better stabilizer than any chemical.
Problems results when thin papers are used
causing water-logging and eventual tears in the
image...a very delicate process, I use the heaviest
weight paper in my work always...
Do you use toners as an image enhancer?
No, not since my first exhibition in 1997... Once
I mastered the art and science of chemical
manipulation, I also mastered the toners
cooking my own and using them as developers
instead of enhancers...a very tricky process as
they tend to harden the emulsion, making them
immune to further manipulations...a subtle
balancing act.
