I
immersed myself in the culture and lifestyle of anyone willing to put me
up on their couch, hire me as a novice in housekeeping, let me live in their
abandoned van, converted shack, extra guest room etc. etc. I never had
much money.
I always kept an unspoken promise to the God of all things Artistic to never
stop creating wherever I lived or worked. This would mean, when I no longer had
conventional tools at hand to make drawings or to paint, I had to work with the
unconventional. One time, while living on the Big Island, I resorted to using house
paint on palm leaves to make decorative signs. Or when living within walking
distance from Asilomar, I made boxes out of drift wood I found in the local park.

Having left behind the limitations of commercial illustration, I dove into
whatever moved me to stretch and grow beyond what I had been taught in art
college.
I tested myself by relying on non- traditional sometimes cheap or free art
materials and absolutely no references to work from except the nature around me;
Or my dreams.
I never took drugs. But I did spend time with other people, who did or shamans,
or mystics or psychics. I learned to accept the perspective of non-linear thinkers. it
was both peculiar and thrilling. To increase my appreciation of other realities and
belief systems in order to grow as an artist and human being,
