To break free, to break ties, to become free, to spread
the wings, to get a lungful of fresh air...
The thirst of liberty creates states and destroys empires.
It burns inside, makes crazy and pushes to the desperate
actions. But often, having caught, finally, the desirable
freedom one feels fear and panic only. After all, many people,
finding freedom, really afraid of it, they are so used to being
in captivity that having got freedom, just do not know what
to do with it. Uncertainty creates such an all-consuming fear
that many people prefer to go into captivity, where it is dark
and cold, but where they had been and where they know
what was what.
This painting - a reflection of the transition period,
when a person has taken the first step, when he still does
not understand his liberation, and not to go back to hell he
must do the only thing - to run, to focus on the movement
for not being afraid of looking forward and just do not have
time to go back. All the bridges must be burnt, otherwise the
last way of thinking catches up and one should pay too dear
a price for the escape attempt. Very rarely, a person comes to
freedom in cold blood, more often the step is emotional, this
is a chance, which advantages cannot be estimated at once.
This is the root of a big fear and a feeling of despair. But
despair is an illusion.
