In your opinion, how is the advent of LED,
with its great advantages in terms of energy
saving and for the environment, changing
the professional figure of the Lighting
Designer?

LUCE 324 / LIGHTING DESIGNERS
The advent of LEDs, but mainly their constant
evolution, has forced the market to search for
greater specificity in order to find its way in
a complex technical labyrinth. Nothing is given
for granted, everything evolves and we lighting
designers need to be constantly updated.
Our profession is constantly contaminated by
new worlds: from multimedia to supervision,
from the IoT to neurosciences. I would like
to believe that today it is impossible to leave
out the lighting designer if one wishes to deal
correctly with a lighting project. Technical
know-how, specificity, transversality,
transparency, Italian design and culture of light
are the qualities that our profession brings
into the process of a project each day.

Thank you for calling me a teacher, but to date
I have only had the opportunity to work as
an assistant in some workshops. Presently I can
only promote this profession, it is truly a great
opportunity to come into contact with a world,
the world of Light, which has often shown
us its stubbornness, vitality, dynamism and
constant growth (in culture and design).
It is important to spread the culture of lighting
design through qualified, free and
independent professionals. It is important
that the faculties of Design, Architecture,
Engineering and also high schools describe
this marvellous profession that offers us great
beauty and great quality each day. I believe
strongly in APIL. Thanks to the Association,
at the beginning of my activity as a freelance
professional, I felt I was supported and part
of a tangible reality. We all know of the real,
tangible difficulty of promoting our work as
lighting designers in the Italian market. It is
thanks to associations like APIL that it has been
possible to make progress and also enable
professionals like me, to take part in this
activity with a greater awareness from the very
start. We all must, without fear, take part in
every effort to promote and defend our work.
