Enel X : using light as a symbol for a new start
Enel ’ s thirty years of experience in the field of artistic and architectural lighting has been backed up over the years by the development of technologically advanced solutions that aim to meet the highest standards in terms of energy efficiency and safety . Enel X , the Group ’ s latest business line , has taken up this challenge by enhancing the historical and artistic heritage of Italian cities , both through permanent modernisation of the lighting systems and temporary installations . For the country , the latter plays an important role in terms of relaunching local and national tourism , by encouraging a renewed involvement of art and culture and consequently reviving a vital sector for the Italian economy . In a historical period like the one we are living , characterized by the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic , light plays an important role , not only as an essential element in everyday life , but also for its intrinsic meaning : light as hope , bonding , new life . On the subject of enhancing Italy ’ s artistic heritage , Enel X has recently been
involved in the temporary lighting of some parts of the Royal Palace of Caserta , one of the country ’ s architectural jewels . Included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997 , the Reggia , with its splendid gardens and its 249 m facade , has been embellished with tricolour lighting by Enel X . An intervention of great emotional impact that created a scenic backdrop that can be seen all along the 2.7 km long waterway of the gardens . To achieve the result , 4 sets of 5 scenographic shaping projectors were used to envelop the facade with a clear and uniform bath of light , featuring the colours of the Italian flag . Besides the inner facade , Enel X also enhanced the fountain of Diana and Actaeon : the work of sculptors Tommaso and Pietro Solari , Paolo Persico , and Angelo Brunelli , this is the last fountain along the “ waterway ” of the Park of the Royal Palace of Caserta . The two groups of sculptures are inspired by the myth of the Goddess Diana and of the hunter Actaeon , turned into a deer and mauled by his dogs for having spied on the Goddess ’ s nudity , caught while
bathing with her nymphs . The lighting of the fountain allows a clear reading of the architectural elements , guaranteeing its use during the night . The water mirror made it possible to create reflections that make the sculptures come alive : a harmonious integration with the surrounding space . A sign of proximity to the territory , the last tricolour lighting installation is the one involving the Aperia . Created as a reservoir for the collection of water , the hemicycle structure has been the setting for concerts and evening shows for some years now . The intervention has made it possible to map the entrance to the Aperia , enhancing it with a dedicated tricolour lighting that avoids any glare to the spectators entering and leaving the scheduled events .
