A new public lighting for Catanzaro T he public lighting of the Municipality of Catanzaro is now managed by Enel Sole, which in February 2014 won the Consip “Luce 2” competition. With a duration of nine years, the goal is to improve the quality of the service by reducing costs and promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The project brought the City to save about 360,000 Euros per year, thanks to an investment by Enel Sole of about 4.5 million euros. The supply of electricity, the system maintenance, the upgrade of energy efficiency and the integrated management of the almost 13 thousand lighting points that are present on the whole territory, are the actions planned for the enhancement of Catanzaro. The restyling of the lighting system affected three important areas of the city: the waterfront, the historic centre with its pedestrian area, and the eastern zone. The 10,000 old generation light bulbs of the lampposts along the coast have been replaced with modern LEDs that allow a new colour rendering. In fact, thanks to the new lighting bodies that emit a white light, instead of the previous yellow one, light pollution has been cut down, in full compliance with the law. The areas affected by the modernization of the lighting systems are: Lido, Giovino, Fortuna, Aranceto, Pistoia, Santa Maria, Sala, San Leonardo, Stadio, Pontepiccolo and Pontegrande.
