MEET A Feast of Fashion in Waterkloof Article: Heila van Rensburg Photos: Theana Breugem B ehind the walls of an old, restored black-and-white house at the corner of Florence Ribeiro and Milner Streets in Waterkloof, fashion magic is happening. Here, at ERRE studio, artistic heads and skilful hands drape, cut, pin and stitch luxurious fabrics, leather and other materials into beautifully structured and tailored pieces that celebrate the female form in all its beauty. The ERRE label, pronounced ‘air’, is an old French term for ‘journey’, and two young designers, Carina Louw and Natasha Jaume, established it as their brand name. Their own exciting journey started with a mutual desire to cater for women looking for quality wardrobe staples and investment pieces for both day wear and evening outfits. As black is commonly associated with elegance, it became the two designers’ colour of choice. For women’s fashion, the defining moment was the invention of the simple black dress by Coco Chanel in 1926. The long evening gown became fashionable for formal occasions, while the little black dress (lbd) could be used for all other occasions. The Myri dress is a one-size-fits-all garment designed to take a woman from the boardroom to dinner, and even to a romp on the beach. A myriad of looks can be achieved by simply raising the hemline, buttoning the sleeves, as a oneshoulder, V-neck, as a wrap dress, shawl, skirt, or long with a cape. It comes with instructions of how to achieve all of this with a single garment. 4 Oos East lans lam Oos lans Maart/April 2016 / March/April 2016 The ERRE designers met while they were working as part-time fashion lecturers.
