The Art of Being Normal is a heartfelt book about two teenagers that are coincidently two outsiders that end up becoming the closest friends. A character called Leo, is a very cold-hearted teenager that wishes to be invisible when he joins a new school, but that doesn’t go to plan. When Leo stands up for David (the other outsider) in a fight an unlikely friendship forms. But things are about to get messy. Because at Eden Park School secrets have a funny habit of not staying secret for long.

This book really touched me because I can relate to the problems that happen in school, and the complicated moments of being a teenager. It is passionate and gripping and I could not wait to see what each chapter revealed, as there were many unexpected surprises. I found it very easy to emotionally connect with the characters, and by the end of the book I felt like I knew the characters inside out.

Although this book is mostly about teenagers I recommend it to all ages, because the issues and events that happen during this book could have an effect on anyone with transgender teenagers. This is one of the most important books I think I’ve ever read because it is very current and the affairs that take place are increasing each year. This book can change people’s views on what it means to be transgender, and it helps you understand why they made this decision.

Overall this book is one of the most engrossing and remarkable books I have ever read and I recommend it to all ages and genders, especially transgenders and people that question their gender and identity.
