Letter From the Editor
Dear Loyola Blakefield Community,
A short introduction from my mouth (hands on a keyboard, rather) is most certainly not enough to summarize my experience as Editor-in-Chief this year. I tend to skate and skim my merry way along my duties and obligations, but after seeing this magazine’s legacy and the scope of talent that the student body possesses, I quickly realized that my only option was to hit the ground running, full speed and no let-ups. Now, at the end of a term of hard work and dedication, on behalf of the Creative Writing Honors class and Digital Media classes, I present to you the 2014 edition of Workshop(s).
The submission pool this time around was incredible. A total of 109 submissions flooded into my inbox. Poems, short stories, photographs, essays: all begging to be read and explored. Every morning, my computer would remind me of the students’ enthusiasm with a simple, “You’ve got mail.” Even some alumni returned with their two cents. All of it adds up to that into which you are about to delve. Seeing this amount of creativity surge to life is breathtaking; my pride in this community cannot be put into words.
Our project would not be the creative marvel it is today without the undying support of Loyola Blakefield’s excellent faculty and administration. I thank Mr. Day, Mr. McCaul, and Mr. Levering. I thank Mr. Zimmerman for his generous willingness to help amass and distribute our magazine. I thank the English and Art Departments for encouraging their students to get the blood flowing and submit their pieces. Most of all, I would like to thank Mr. Flanigan and the Creative Writing Honors class for their hard work and collaborative efforts. Their guidance kept me straight and focused. Without them, I would not call myself Editor-in-Chief nor would I be so proud to represent such a talented group of men.
