SAMSA has also imposed some new rules over recent years. Who is SAMSA? The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) was established on the 1st April 1998 under the SAMSA Act 5 of 1998. The objectives of the Authority are: • To ensure safety of life and property at sea; • To prevent and combat pollution from ships in the marine environment; and • To promote the Republic’s maritime interests. All boats and boating equipment have to be SAMSA approved prior to going out on the water. Lowrance South Africa provides our customers with high-quality safety equipment (like first-in-class VHF radios), and all relevant Lowrance products are also SAMSA approved. You should always make sure that products are SAMSA approved prior to purchasing any safety equipment for your boat, otherwise your boat won’t be deemed worthy of going out to sea. December holidays are just around the corner! If you’re planning to go fishing; now is the time to make sure that your boat, all your boating equipment and your marine electronics are updated and certified. If you need any assistance, our staff are always here to help!
