NEW LOWRANCE
VHF RADIOS
Whether fixed-mounted or handheld, VHF radios are one of the most
important communication and safety devices for anglers and boaters. From
simple boat-to-boat or boat-to-shore communications, to calling out or
responding to on-water emergencies, VHF radios deliver peace of mind
while on the water.
As VHF is such an important safety tool, SAMSA (the South African Maritime
Safety Authority) made it a rule that all skiboats have to have a two-way VHF
radio (with DSC compatibility) installed in order to be deemed sea-worthy.
What is DSC?
“Digital Selective Calling (DSC) is a standard for sending pre-defined digital
messages via the medium frequency (MF), high frequency (HF) and very
high frequency (VHF) maritime radio systems. It is a core part of the Global
Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS). The system utilises the latest
digital radio technology and offers much more than the old aural distress
call system.”
So basically your VHF radio has to have a DSC button in order for you to
instantly communicate any distress caused out at sea (including position).
LOWRANCE VHF radios adhere to ALL SAMSA and ICASA (Independent
Communication Authority of South Africa) requirements.
Lowrance VHF radios offer the ability to contact port and nearby boats,
send out distress calls, and automatically communicate position when a man
overboard key is pressed.
With Lowrance being the world leader in marine electronics, there is no
doubt that our VHF radios are also first-in-class. And to back up their quality,
Lowrance South Africa offers a full THREE YEAR warranty on all VHF radios.
