ENGINE
management
Did you know that some Lowrance units can connect to your engines and display certain
engine data directly on your Lowrance screen? Just another awesome feature offered
by your favourite marine electronics!
Most 4-stroke outboard engines have the ability to
communicate engine data with an interface connection
to an onboard NMEA 2000 network. The data can be
viewed on any multifunction display (MFD) and also
on some digital gauges. Not only can you view engine
information, but you can also receive engine fault codes
and diagnose faults. This means you never have to take
your eyes off your Lowrance screen, and it ensures extra
safety for you and everyone on your boat.
Lowrance units commonly
connect with the following
engines:
All HDS units have NMEA 2000, and the 7-, 9-, and 12-
inch Elite Ti units do as well (not the 5-inch). The new
Hook² range does not offer NMEA connection.

All that is required is the NMEA 2000 set-up (which
includes the NMEA starter kit) and an engine interface
cable (example pictured below).
The cable either plugs directly into your
engine, or to a specialised engine gauge (some
manufacturers - like Yamaha - require a gauge),
and is then connected to the NMEA starter
kit. This starter kit connects to your Lowrance
unit, allowing data to be communicated to and
displayed on your Lowrance screen.
