SHELLY
SHELLY BEACH
Skiboat Competition
A massive Yellowfin Tuna weighing
79.2 kg took top spot at the Shelly
Beach Skiboat competition last
week and proud angler Pieter
Aslett was declared the undisputed
winner. This beauty was caught on
the last day of the competition
(off the boat Must-Byt 5) near the
1000m drop-off!
Junior angler Greg Botha took
the spotlight with his 37.8kg
Amberjack, which clinched second
place overall. He went home with
a great prize from Lowrance SA –
an HDS 7 Gen3 and autopilot!
While the cold front (and storms)
which moved in just before the
start of this four-day tournament
may have reduced the size of the
field – those who entered, enjoyed
four beautiful fishing days.
Two metre swells made launching tricky but the big seas did not put off the die -
hard anglers who recorded some good catches. Tuna had to be a minimum of 6kg
before being eligible for weigh in and there were lots of fish caught of up to 20kg.
Other species included Dorado, Wahoo and Bonito.
Our Brand Ambassador Alain Kahn fished with his son Jordan who led the junior
field on Day One with his 19.2kg Yellowfin Tuna. He ended the competition in 4th
place – among the juniors.
John and Steph attended the briefing and registration evening and two other
evenings including prize giving. They met old and new friends of Lowrance and
manned our mobile Lowrance stand showing off the Carbon 16 and 9 units, an
Elite 12 and 5 Ti, the Hook 2 5 Combo and a Hook 4x GPS.
