2018
Bilene, Mozambique
(APRIL 3rd – 7th)
The OCFD (Obsessive-Compulsive Fishing Disorder) Jetski Species competition
recently took place in Praia Do Bilene – where perfect weather and sea
conditions had fish “busting out all over the place” and R7000 was raised in
support of testicular cancer.
According to organizer Chez Thackwray (of Racetech in Pinetown), enthusiasm
was at a peak at the start of the event, as one of the lodge guests had caught
a 29kg Couta the day before- setting the mood for the competition.
Over the next four days, the 32 anglers targeted a variety of species via drop
shot, vertical jigging and bait (both dead and live) – catching loads of fish.
Species caught included: Couta, Snoek, Yellowfin Tuna, Bonnita, Queen Fish,
Giant Travelly, Greater Barracuda, Rosy Jobfish, Amberjack, Kingfish, Wahoo,
Prodigal Son and others.
Congratulations to Kevin Tait who took
first place with 590 points - winning
R10 000 cash, a Lowrance Hook 5²
Combo unit (sponsored by Lowrance
and Racetech Yamaha) and other prizes.
Chez fished with Rozanne Van Deventer,
who on Day One, managed to land a “PB
beaut” of a Snoek which topped the scales
at 7.8kg and ended up the heaviest Snoek
of the competition!
