2018 UKFC
FISHING FESTIVAL
The Umgeni Kayak Fishing Club just completed their 2018 Fishing Festival - ( 5th and 6th of May ) - and it was a HUGE success ! The comp was held at the Umhlanga Ski Boat Club - launches were allowed from the South to the North Coast of KZN .
Lowrance was very happy to be part of this popular festival for the second year . This year we sponsored a Hook ² 4X GPS unit - an ideal unit for kayak anglers - and it was given as the 3rd prize . We also partly sponsored a Hook ² 5X SplitShot unit for the lucky draw .
The festival had 201 entries - proof that kayak angling is becoming more and more popular in South Africa . All competitors had two awesome days out on the water - bringing in some amazing fish . This festival was a game fish species comp - so the biggest fish of each species took the top places ( excluding Kingfish and Billfish ).
On Day One , Steven Whitaker took the lead with a 28.9kg Couta . He hoped to hold onto first place , but on Day Two Rob Wacher took the lead with his BIG tuna – weighing in at 29.2kg . Only 0.3kg between first and second place ! Third place - and also winner of the Lowrance prize - went to Bryan Taylor with his Snoek of 7.15kg . A lot of Couta were caught over the weekend , along with some Tuna , Snoek and Prodigal sons .
The winner - Rob Wacher – with his prize of R50 000 cash , ( below ) - and also his prize-winning 29.2kg tuna ( right ).
