Lowrance SA would like to send our condolences to Hennie’s family and friends. c ongratula�ons to John Mthambo (fishing off the boat Magnum) for taking the honours at the popular Pla�num Boys 2018 compe��on - recently held at Sodwana Bay. His excellent haul of several Yellowfin Tuna of between 18 and 20kg’s (including one of 21.7kg), a 17.4kg Wahoo and, among others, a Black Marlin; racked up the points for the win. Lowrance electronics again dominated the event. Waterberg Skiboat Club chairman, Franz Reyneke , says the majority of the Limpopo-based members are Lowrance supporters. Franz also won the Link-8 VHF radio, from Lowrance South Africa for the most points in the Waterberg leg of this event. Anglers (30 boats) came all the way from Rustenburg to north of Polokwane and enjoyed two and a half days of fishing, but unfortunately the last two days were blow outs. Needless to say, the host venue Visagies, was filled to the brim with anglers wai�ng for be�er weather - which sadly didn’t happen. Organiser of the event Hennie Janssen sent us this report: The MBT Pla�num Boys Deep Sea Fishing Compe��on was once again held at Sodwana Bay from 19 – 23 March 2018. Although only three out of the five days was fishable due to bad weather condi�ons, it was once again a huge success with 1118.8 kg of fish weighed-in between the 18 par�cipa�ng boats. Four par�cipants also had the privilege of the Tag & Release ; Release of three x Black Marlin and 1 x Blue Marlin. At the end of the compe��on the results were as follows: 1st place – Magnum with 328.9 points, skipper John Matambu and a Tag & Release ; Release on a Black Marlin by Kobus Botha. 2nd place – Jasper with 238.6 points, Skipper Franz Reyneke and a Tag & Release on a Blue Marlin by Machiel Basson.
