You’ve Got to be Willing to Fail
By: Mark Madigan
When you look up the definition of failure, the most common answer that shows up is a lack of success. Nowadays failure is almost always looked at in a negative way. People see failure as a defeat, and are frowned upon when they experience it. Once it happens for the first time people fear it to happen again. Ed Catmull, author of “Fear and Failure,” writes about how some of the most successful films/movie industries have come from people that have experienced failure. Looking at failure in a positive way can help so much for the future. We can choose to see failure as something devastating, or like we should as a learning experience. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and that every time we fail, it is because we are meant to learn something new, or maybe it just wasn’t our time to succeed, and most of all so it doesn’t happen again. One thing everyone tries to avoid in life is failure and the fear of it, but if used correctly failure can be one of the most helpful learning lessons in life.
