Failure is inevitable and the sooner we all realize and accept it, the more succussful we will become. Author Ed Catmull helped explain that in his article "Fear and Failure." Failure isn't something we should feel ashamed of. Everyone experiences some form of failure at least once in their life and it's what helps us grow. In order to get better at something you need to be able to take failure and turn it into something good. Personally, a big part of failure that has helped me has been through snowboarding and skateboarding. I strongly believe that failure is something we should'nt resent but rather we should accept it in order to learn from our mistakes.
Failure isn't real
I have been snowbaording for 11 years and within that 11 years I have fallen, broken bones, gotten bruises, and more but never once did i give up. The thought of giving up never occurred to me because I have been working at it for so long and it was something I loved. The more I fell and the more I failed the harder I tried. I broke my wrist one year at a mountain I knew so well. It was Ski Bradford. Me and a few buddies went up for the day to get some footage and have some fun. My friend kyle has been snowboarding for about the same amount of time as me and my friend Greg too. Greg is big into BMX and is kind of a troublemaker but he is fun to hang out with. It was the first run of the day and all the rails and boxes were a bit sticky because no one had hit them yet. I started heading down and I saw a down box with a pretty decent size drop off. I jumped up to do a front lip slide but immediatly got stuck on the box and got thrown foward off the drop and landed on my wrist. It was extremly painful but I got up, wrapped my wrist in a bandana, and kept riding for the next 2-3 hours until my friend Greg hurt his shoulder.
