FEATURE ARTICLE Overwhelming Victory Is Ours by Pastor T. Anthony Thompson There is a common phrase that sounds like truth.   The phrase, “It’s all good” sounds like a good, positive quote, and it is that. “It’s all good?”  No, it’s not all good.  “It’s never all good.”  This is truth. It’s NEVER ALL GOOD. This doesn’t negate the truth of Romans 8:28. GOD WILL WORK “ALL THESE THINGS TOGETHER FOR GOOD” IN MY LIFE AS I TRUST HIS PLAN, FOLLOW HIS CALLING, AND LOVE HIM WHOLEHEARTEDLY. All things are not good, but God takes “all things” (the good, the bad, and the ugly) and “works them together for good” to and for whom?  To those who love God and are the “called according to His purpose.”  “Overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” Rom 8:37 NLT Everyone has problems. The only people who don’t are in cemeteries. The real problem is how we handle our problems. Often we try to solve them with our own power. How can you tell when you’re doing that? Because you’re tired all the time! You’re like the guy who said, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.” Or we’re like the lady who said, “Just about the time I try to make ends meet, somebody moves the ends.” We say things like, “I’m doing okay under the circumstances.” Well, what are you doing under them? Someone has said that circumstances are like a mattress; if you’re on top you rest easy, but if you’re underneath you suffocate! What’s the answer? Take your focus off your problems and put it on God’s promises. Here’s one of them: “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble?” (Rom 8:35 NLT). Paul answers, “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” The word “conqueror” means “one who overcomes by gaining control.” And Paul says that we are “more than” conquerors (Rom 8:37 NKJV). To be a conqueror 3 means to fight a battle and win. To be more than a conqueror means to win a battle without having to fight. Jesus fights on your behalf; He does it in you, and through you, and that makes you “more than” a conqueror. When Jesus hung on Calvary’s cross over 2,000 years ago, He took your place. Your problem became His problem. Your pain became His pain. Your battle became His battle. And when He rose victoriously from a grave that couldn’t hold Him, Jesus won your victory once and for all. You don’t have to fight in your own strength! The battle is not yours . . . the battle is the Lord’s! So, don’t let the enemy steal your joy or rob your peace. Even in the midst of the battle, you can fight with the assurance that Jesus has already won the victory! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus
