“ I started volunteering after my son began
attending Livewire. I started in the coffee bar
and now I also help take the door money when
the young people sign in, and more recently I got
involved with helping organise fundraising events.
The more I saw of the young people, how it
changed lives for the better and how important
the place was to them, the more I wanted to be a
part of it and help out.
Livewire gave my son a place where he could meet
other young people with an interest in the music
scene and I saw his confidence grow.
Why wouldn’t you want to volunteer for such a
brilliant project. Livewire saves lives and changes
lives, but it’s also a fun, vibrant, place to be and
makes volunteering feel really worthwhile. ”
“ When I went down on my first night to
Livewire I really hadn’t a clue of what I would
find, how the young people would be etc.
Four years later I can report it has been one of
the most rewarding things I have ever been part
of. It gives me a facet of my life that I would
never have experienced - i.e. mixing with groups
of young people, of all backgrounds - 99.9% of
whom are funny, lively, creative and polite and in
an environment that is welcoming and accepting
for all. Not to mention the great crowd of fellow
volunteers I work with. Yes sometimes it’s a bit
of a squeeze fitting Thursday night into my life
but I would hate to lose it.
To be honest volunteering at Livewire gives me
more than I could ever give in return. ”
“ I’ve volunteered for much of my adult life.
It’s a way to occupy some spare time, a change
of scene, and importantly I enjoy being part of
the community giving something back.
I started at Livewire around 8 years ago, as
a volunteer youth worker, and because I’m
a designer by day, I look after our web site,
contribute to our social media input, and produce
promotional literature all in a voluntary capacity.
The importance of a place like Livewire to the
local young people is tangible. It’s rewarding to
help and steer the next generation through their
ups and downs of growing up.
Being part of a dedicated and supportive team
of musicians and youth workers is brilliant. You
should give it a go - come and volunteer! ”
