Evy's Transformation
Kirsty Anya Le Jeune from Racehorse Rehab shares the story of her rescue horse that was destined for the doggers but given a second chance.
I am one of the two girls that started up the page Racehorse Rehab. In June last year, through an amazing girl named Katherine, we heard about a dogger that was willing to let us try to re-home 8 of the horses he had booked in for slaughter that were over his quota.I fell in love with this mare just from her add we had running, and also the info that some awesome people wrote in to us about her. The amazing Lena Phillips from Australasian horse brands data base found out so much history on her for me. And another lovely lady Natasha actually used to work with her, and was able to tell me all about her personality. Her stable name was Princess, and I was told she was incredibly sweet. All I had to do, was convince hubby that we should have a second horse! Lucky he's a big softy and could not bare the thought of her going to slaughter either, and on the 23rd of June ''Princess" came home with us.
We renamed her Evy, from the name Eve, which means life. We thought it was quite fitting. For the first 10 weeks, we just concentrated on getting Evy healthy. I got her wormed, teeth and feet done, had the vet out to meet her, and give her her hendra shots, all her vaccinations and health checks were done, and got some good feed into her. She was half bald when we got her and infested with ticks, we had her sprayed and topically treated her skin, and soon her coat grew back, and is now silky and shiny.
