Young Rider Stories

My name is Connor and I want to tell you about my pony, his name is El Richos Buddy but I call him buddy. I have had buddy for 4 years and done a lot of stuff with him like hacking, sporting, show jumping and trail riding.

Buddy is an Australian saddle pony who has taught me a lot of things and my favorite thing to do with him is showing him in a hack ring. I like doing it because buddy and I get to have fun together, I have showed him in ridden classes and led classes and we have even won against adults which I think is the best because they are older than me but buddy and I have a special friendship and he trust me. I don't care about winning ribbons tho I just want to go out and have fun with my pony.

When we first meet buddy he was only 15 months old and the than owner told us that he was brought from the sales as his breeder didn't think he was much of a show quality pony and that he had poor conformation. The man we brought buddy from didn't think buddy was much of a pony but would make a nice kids plod along pony.

We had buddy only a few days before when we noticed he actually had quite nice movement and that with a lot of work could make a child hack pony. Within the week of buying Buddy he was taken to the vey for a full check up. The vet didn't find anything major wrong with him other than needing some weight put on. We had the farrier attend to his feet and the dentist out too but other than that Buddy was Just a shaggy pony who looked un-loved.

From the moment we brought buddy his life changed,

Buddies daily life now consisted of being fed in the morning before leaving his stable, going out to have free paddock time before being brought in to be worked, he'd than return to the paddock until it was bed time where he'd be brought back into his stable for his dinner which would consist of chaff, pellets, soy bean meal, Vegemite, and oils.
