According to our research, a lack of energy
(74%), stress (57%) and a lack of time (49%)
are the main culprits. The results were broadly
consistent across all age groups but, notably,
stress was a more significant barrier for the
youngest group of 18-24 years (63%); perhaps
interestingly, a lack of desire outweighed
a lack of time for the over 45’s (56% vs. 40%).

barriers to
intimacy
If so many of us are seeking
more physical intimacy in our
relationships, what is it
that’s holding us back?
LACK OF ENERGY
STRESS
LACK OF TIME
The survey data suggests that the varying
impact these factors have on different age
groups is underpinned by their relationship
with technology…
Overall, a quarter (25%) of Brits admit that
their phone/TV/laptop distracts them from
being intimate with their partner. This rises
to a third (33%) of under 25’s, for whom the
potential negative effects of social media are
now widely accepted; but falls to just 17% of
the over 65’s, who are arguably less obsessed
with technology, but also have more time for
such distractions.
