While at Christian County, he was a member of the school’s powerful basketball team. Cindi Fowler District 14 Council Following graduation Deondrá received a full academic scholarship from the Univer- sity of Louisville. While a host of schools made him similar offers, Deondrá chose U of L because its sports administration program is ranked in the top 10 nationally. At U of L, Deondrá was manager for the women’s basketball team during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. He also played on the scout team during practices, handled equipment needs, and assisted with re- cruiting visits. With his help the Lady Cardinals made it to the 2013 national championships, and to the Elite Eight the following year. Deondrá graduated with honors in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Administration. July of last year Deondrá accepted a part-time position with Louisville Parks’ Rec-on-the-Go Deondrá with young visitors to program, then three Newburg Community Center months later he was promoted to full-time Recreation Assistant at Sun Valley Community Center. Tim Jones (his former supervisor) indicated this was probably the quickest promotion in the history of Lou- isville Parks and Recreation. In April, Deondrá was reassigned as Recreation Leader to Newburg Community Center. He is now responsible for planning and scheduling the center’s programs, instructing various phases of recreational programming, ensuring proper use of equipment and facilities, and much more. LOUISVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION Louisville Parks and Recreation’s mission, as a nationally accredited parks and recreation agency, is to connect people to places and opportunities that support and grow a sustainable community. Our vision for Louisville is a clean, green, safe and inclusive city where people love to live, work and play. The Louisville Parks and Recreation website features information on parks and facilities as well as maps, articles, posts and updates of interest to parkgoers. Deondrá is a very ambitious young man whose ultimate career goal is to become a college basketball coach - before reaching the even loftier goal of becoming a college athletic director. When asked to explain his motivation, he quickly pointed to a quote from rapper/singer/songwriter and record producer Jermain Cole: “Keep grinding, your life can change in one year. Even when it’s dark out the sun is shining somewhere”. The information in this guide is subject to change without notice. It is recommended you call ahead to confirm availability.
