As the Medical Director of the Sports Medicine Division at UofL Health and Chief Medical Officer for Racing Louisville, Dr. Daily carries immense responsibility. The pressure of leading multiple highly competitive organizations on the brightest stages, making critical decisions and managing expectations could break even the strongest individuals. Yet, she navigates it all with resilience, and her ability to endure the demands of leadership while remaining true to her values is nothing short of inspiring. Her example has given me – and many others – the courage to take on new challenges, embrace leadership roles and push forward despite adversity.
Personally, her mentorship has greatly redefined my own professional career. When we moved to Louisville for my Med-Peds residency, my wife and I always assumed we would return to our hometown in Ohio after my training. That was the plan. Then, in my second year of residency, I rotated with Dr. Daily and the rest of the sports medicine team. From day one, I was welcomed with open arms, and they helped confirm my aspiration to pursue sports medicine fellowship. For the remainder of my residency, I worked tirelessly to become a competitive applicant and took on leadership positions at the national level within our sports medicine organization.
When the time came to submit my rank list for fellowship, I thought it was going to be a no-brainer. If you told my younger self that I would turn down the opportunity to work with the Los Angeles Lakers( a literal childhood dream) and UCLA Health I would’ ve laughed in your face. But that’ s exactly what I did. I knew that what we have in Louisville is special: so special, so rare and so authentic that I couldn’ t walk away. I also firmly believe that the vision of our future is bright and I wanted to be a part of it. I have been inspired
to continue to give back to this community, and the opportunity to work in our sports medicine department became the dream I never knew I had. After completing my fellowship, I accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family & Geriatric Medicine and Division of Sports Medicine and now my family and I call Louisville home. That is the power of true influence.
I am certain there are scores of other attendings, trainees and medical students who have similar testimonies that highlight the impact Dr. Daily has made at our medical school, athletics and our community. She has shown us all what it means to lead, to serve and to inspire. And because of her, I know the kind of physician, and person, I want to be.
