events, engaging in mentorship programs and contributing to inter-institutional discussions help build networks that span specialties and organizations. These relationships foster trust and open doors for consultation and advice when needed.
On a day-to-day level, simply reaching out to colleagues for input, sharing lessons learned or inviting others to join interdisciplinary and multi-institutional discussions strengthens the culture of collaboration. This is why I am a strong proponent of the Physician Finder on our website or a GLMS Physicians’ Directory( currently in the works, details to follow in the coming months) and making it easily accessible to members. Trust me, using a search engine to find a doctor’ s contact information is not reliable! When we show up, participate and support one another, we set a positive example for others and help create an environment where teamwork is valued.
Our Common Trait: We Are Physicians
Ultimately, the collective actions we take as physicians— communicating openly, participating in professional communities and supporting each other— can break down barriers and improve care for our patients. Collaboration does not have to wait for policy changes; it starts with us, today.
The health of our patients and the well-being of the physicians in Louisville will benefit from our strengthened bonds. We need to seek opportunities to learn from one another and be a unified voice, regardless
of the walls that may currently divide us. Let’ s commit to bridging these silos, one connection at a time.
