other health professionals from the $ 100,000 fee; as of this writing, the bill was still sitting in the House Judiciary Committee. Ms. Jordan notes that“ It will also forbid any new fees on health care workers that exceed the current fees under the U. S. Code.”
Congresswoman Yvette Clarke( D-NYC) said in a March press release,“ I am proud to co-lead this effort to prevent dangerous workforce shortages from impacting the health and well-being of Americans, as well as to ensure that those who are willing to contribute their expertise and talents to our nation can continue to do so at the times we most need them.” The bill was endorsed by the Association of American Medical Colleges and by the American Hospital Association.
Of all the interns I’ ve taught, as a group, the ones from India did the best physical exams. They were way superior to Americans in diagnosing murmurs, in smoothly assessing the neuro exam, in being comfortable
to present their findings. Most U. S. educated students had not spent enough time at the bedside being closely monitored by a superior; they lagged behind. But, as with all intent and serious students, their pride and joy at finally getting it right made my day.
Please consider directing your calls and letters to committee chair Rep. Jim Jordan( R-OH) to release this bill for consideration by the full House. Around 27 % of Ohio’ s doctors were foreign-trained before immigrating here.
Around one-fifth of doctors currently practicing in Kentucky are international medical graduates. Thank them, when you see them, for going the extra many, many miles to help our patients.
