Doctor ' s Cup
With nearly 200 people in attendance, $ 125,000 in scholarships was awarded to 10 outstanding UofL medical students, with each student receiving $ 12,500. Over the past 15 years, the Foundation has awarded more than $ 733,000 in scholarships to 98 local medical students. The event included 45 sponsors and 108 players, and a 2016 Doctor’ s Cup scholarship recipient both played and sponsored.
Doctors ' Ball
We hosted an elevated celebration at the stunning Ashbourne Farms, where we recognized a Physician of the Year from each major hospital system, an independent physician and presented the Paragon Award to an outstanding community health care leader. The event drew 169 attendees, including 14 GLMS and GLMS Foundation Board members and 12 University of Louisville School of Medicine students who attended through donated tickets, five of whom volunteered their time to help set up and support the event.
Advocacy Fund
The Honorable Bob DeWeese, MD, Advocacy Fund was established in partnership with the DeWeese family, to help medical students defray the costs of attending advocacy meetings that protect patients and strengthen medicine.
Smoketown
At the annual Smoketown Neighborhood Celebration, more than 1,000 pounds of fresh produce were provided to families facing food insecurity in the Smoketown neighborhood.
Counseling
Offered free, anonymous counseling sessions to help members manage stress and prevent burnout.
Grants Awarded:
SMOKETOWN FAMILY WELLNESS CLINIC PILOT PROGRAM, HEALTHY TA- BLES, HEALTHY FAMILIES – Funding supported a program designed to help families build lifelong skills in nutrition, healthy cooking and overall wellness.
BOYS AND GIRLS HAVEN, HAVEN PEACE GARDEN EXPANSION – Funding supported the expansion of the Haven Peace Garden to provide teen boys with a peaceful space to build confidence, learn gardening skills and develop healthy coping methods.
KENTUCKY SCIENCE CENTER – The Foundation awarded the final installment of its $ 100,000 contribution toward the new permanent exhibit, Uniquely Human, which promotes mental and emotional health for youth in our community.
Ongoing support was also provided to our charitable partners, SOS and The Healing Place.
