After a six-decade stellar career at the National Institute of Health( NIH), Dr. Anthony Stephen Fauci retired and authored this 480-page memoir which earned # 1 New York Times Bestseller status. He is an experienced and compassionate clinician, a revered teacher / mentor, a prolific author and a devoted family man. He was certainly a beacon of hope, particularly during the HIV( AIDS epidemic) in the early 1980s and subsequently during the COVID-19 pandemic’ s hardest times, the years 2020-2021. He has served as a consultant to seven U. S. Presidents with alacrity and dignity.
Fauci is a seasoned physician-scientist( an infectious disease specialist) and immunologist who served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases( NIAID) from 1984 to
2022 at the NIH. He was one of the world’ s most frequently cited scientists across all scientific journals from 1983 to 2002. In 2008, President George W. Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the U. S., for his work on the AIDS relief program PEPFAR. Dr. Jerome Groopman, a staff writer at The New Yorker, described him as having one of the most consequential and most prominent careers in American medicine in the past 50 years.
