As Chair of the Policy & Advocacy Committee at GLMS, Dr. Thomas Higgins has empowered University of Louisville medical students by providing them with the guidance and resources needed to effectively present legislative issues impacting patients and the local community. Through GLMS, he has organized legislative receptions, creating opportunities for students and members to engage in meaningful dialogue with legislators and Metro Council leaders about pressing health care topics. Dr. Higgins also facilitates visits for medical students to the Capitol in Frankfort, enabling direct, face-to-face discussions with lawmakers. His leadership exemplifies the qualities of an advocate who not only shapes policy for the betterment of patient health, but also fosters strong, collaborative relationships within the medical community.

Tom Higgins joined our practice in Fall 2012 bringing with him a deep knowledge of rhinology unprecedented in Louisville. Tom immediately began to care for complex cases – Esthesioneuroblastomas, juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas and multiple CSF leaks. I jokingly tell him these things didn’ t exist in Louisville before he arrived. Now patients with these and other rare conditions, plus a steady stream of complex chronic sinusitis patients, make their way to see Tom every day.
More than just clinical expertise and surgical skill, Tom has a great mind for business, a rare thing among physicians. Positioned to take over leadership of our practice, I have watched him excel and rise up the ranks of GLMS leadership – of course I taught him everything he knows about leadership, advocacy and organized medicine …
I am proud to have Tom as my partner. Congratulations on your presidency!
