( left to right ) Our trip to New Zealand ; Our Paw-sse ; Our yearly vacation to St . Tropez . meeting at the front door ( I believe the phrase “ Why are you here ?” was used ), he was invited in . After reading a several page letter he had written , he asked if she would marry him . After several minutes of silent hyperventilation , she agreed ! A year and a half later , they married at the Seelbach Hotel and honeymooned in Napa .
Maintaining a long-distance relationship was extremely difficult to do on a resident / fellow salary and living in different time zones , but training kept us busy . People always say “ I could never do this ! How did you do it ?” and truthfully , we just knew the training was all finite and at some point , there was an end to the madness . It all seems like a complete blur now , and here we are on the other side . The unconventional path of our relationship has continued . Supra eventually settled in Louisville first in 2015 and joined Pediatric Anesthesia Associates and Josh joined her in in 2016 when he joined Norton Orthopedic Institute at Norton Audubon Hospital .
Fast forward and we have been married almost 13 years and both are practicing where the story all started . We happily live a dog-full and child-free life in the Cherokee Triangle neighborhood . We travel ( backpacks only , no check-in bags , you should try it !) to eat all over the world ( yes , you read that correctly ) and go to as many concerts as possible here at home . When not traveling , we stay busy with work and in the local medical and political community . We love to do Lego sets together , host dinner parties , cook together and are always watching at least two to three shows at the same time , of varying genres . We do weekly dinner at another physician couple ’ s house ( Ganesh and Virginia Kartha ) on Sundays where we cook a meal together and watch a show . It started with Game of Thrones and drinks and now , we are on year seven , show number 23 of this tradition and full blown 3 course meals . We also host a yearly ( and hopefully legendary ) open house for the Cherokee Triangle Art Fair , we just hosted our sixth year ( two years off for COVID ).
Supra is currently the Co-President of her group Pediatric Anesthesia Associates , on the Kentucky Health Advisory Board ( KHAB ) and Pharmacy and Therapeutics ( P & T ) Advisory Committee , as the physician representative for both . In contrast to her official duties , she is an avid knitter and plant mom as well as deeply dedicated potato aficionado . Josh is on the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Commission ( KBWC ), is an extremely meticulous travel planner and enjoys video games and fitness . His other loves include sandwiches , dip and efficiency . We are both also involved with KMA and were delegates for last year ’ s legislative session .
Medical training is such an insular world where you sacrifice your life fully to one specific goal . When you come up for air three to 10 years later ( in our case , five to six years later ), you have to use everything you learned along the way and figure out how to be more than just a doctor . You also have to maintain your personal relationships and have an otherwise positive impact on your local community . This is all very challenging to balance , as most of you know . Not all relationships work out , not all career and life plans go accordingly and some of us have had to pivot one or both of these in a whole new direction . We constantly adapted during our relationship when we could not spend holidays together , could not switch residencies after we were engaged , and when Supra had the opportunity to match into fellowship where Josh was in residency , it did not happen . We constantly erected a new lemonade stand when we were dumped with lemons . Ultimately , we maintained a mutual respect for each other because we stayed dedicated to our careers but also prioritized our relationship , and in the end , it made us stronger . We are independent but still inextricably linked . Through randomness and adversity , we met , evolved and now thrive in this world . There is no one else that we would do it with !
