OPINION
for all ? What if workplaces and schools incentivized regular physical activity throughout the day ? What if accessing health care was low-barrier , affordable and equitable ? What if parental leave was encouraged as opposed to requiring women to return to work while still raw from childbirth and postpartum ? None of this is a reality in the current landscape , but it could be if we band together and advocate for population-level changes . I genuinely believe that as physicians , we must take matters into our own hands and away from those who seek to profit from our patients ’ continued illnesses . Our patients will not improve if the root causes of their illnesses are not addressed . For some patients , this means addressing the fact that their basic human needs are not being met ! While I doubt this “ ideal ” system will come to fruition in my lifetime , we must start the process now for future generations of physicians and patients . If each of us does our small part by advocating for what we know is right and just , we can move the needle . All is not lost ; we can still strive for better health care for the generations to come !
