Sharing Our Vision for the Future at the KMA Annual Meeting

On August 23-25 after nearly a decade , the Kentucky Medical Association headed back to downtown Louisville for the 2024 Annual Meeting . The theme of this year ’ s meeting was “ Voices and Visions : Influencing the Future of Kentucky Healthcare ” and examined trends , workforce issues , emerging technologies and clinical considerations and how communications can be leveraged to educate patients . GLMS submitted 13 resolutions this year on the following topics :
1 . Support for Medical Students to Participate in KMA and AMA Activities 2 . Investing in Primary Care
3 . Proposal for the Kentucky Medical Association to Reaffirm Support for the HPV Vaccination
4 . Coronary Calcium Scoring Coverage by Insurance Companies 5 . Review of 201 KAR 9:270 ( Kentucky ’ s Buprenorphine Regulation ) 6 . Life-Limiting Anomaly Inductions ( of Labor ) 7 . Adequate Physician Workforce
8 . Support for Temporary Transfer ( of Firearms ) Laws Associated with Crisis Aversion and Rights Retention Legislation
9 . Support for Expanded Access to Dental Care for the Comprehensive Health of Kentuckians
10 . Supporting Recruitment and Engagement of Underrepresented Groups Within Medical Specialty Societies
11 . GLP-1 Agonist Use and Eating Disorders Screening 12 . Increase Inclusion Criteria for Colorectal Screening
13 . Change in EPA National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Particulate Matter for PM2.5
We had resounding success , and the first 12 resolutions were adopted ( some with amendments ). The Ambient Air Quality resolution was referred to the Board of Trustees .
At the House of Delegates , a moment of silence was held to honor the memory of longtime GLMS member and former GLMS and KMA President Dr . Gordon Tobin . Also at the meeting , GLMS member and anesthesiologist with UofL Health , Dr . Jiapeng Huang was elected KMA President-Elect .
We would like to congratulate the following GLMS members on their completion of the Kentucky Physicians Leadership Institute : Dr . Timothy Beacham , Dr . Kevin O ’ Bryan , Dr . Rinit Pancholi , Dr . Erin Schumer , Dr . Zubi Suleman and Dr . Robert Whitford .
Thank you to the many physicians and medical students who submitted resolutions this year and worked tirelessly to make their voices heard . We look forward to another great year of advocacy again in 2025 !
