IN REMEMBRANCE : Michael Faurest , MD September 21 , 1946 – July 17 , 2023
Dr . Michael Faurest was both a respected dermatologist and a founding partner of Dermatology Associates where he served the community for over 40 years . On a personal note , he was both a wonderful colleague and a friend . Sadly , he passed away on July 17 , 2023 at Nazareth Home in Louisville .
Mike was born in Maysville , Kentucky and attended the University of Kentucky for his bachelor of science degree and medical school . His internship year was spent in Indianapolis , followed by a dermatology residency at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill . Mike served in the Air Force as a dermatologist before returning to Louisville to establish Dermatology Associates .
Mike ’ s true joys in life included his family , friends , his church ( St . Francis of Rome Catholic Church ) and his work and patients . He met his beloved wife , Ann , while attending UK , and together they shared three wonderful children – Michelle , Michael and Megan , along with six grandsons who were “ the apple of his eye .” At his eulogy , his son commented on what a supportive and loving father he and his siblings had growing up . He joked that as a dermatologist
, his dad would always be found under a tree , slathered with sunscreen , a hat , sunglasses and reading a book or medical journal during their yearly family trips to Hilton Head . Sadly , Ann passed away one year prior to Mike ’ s death .
Mike was a “ scratch ” golfer who could often be found playing the links at Big Spring Country Club with his many friends . In fact , as winner of the Kentucky Golf State Championship in high school , he was awarded a full scholarship to UK .
Mike retired in 2012 to enjoy more time with family and friends . He traveled extensively with his wife both nationally and internationally . To this day , his former patients will often ask about Mike and comment on his wonderful bedside manner . Mike treated generations of families during his years of practice .
Maya Angelou is quoted as saying , “ People will forget what you said , people will forget what you did , but people will never forget how you made them feel .” This is the epitome of Mike ’ s relationships with everyone who knew and loved him .
