The Final Preparation by TIMIR BANERJEE , MD
It is an opportunity to be able to prepare for the final exit It is a blessing to have the time and the ability to plan When we have used up our time and there isn ’ t more of it The brother of Zeus always waits to make us part of his clan .
We don ’ t know who gives the “ order .”
I don ’ t believe it arrives in a UPS envelope or someone can FedEx it But we know that all of us have to cross the border A predestined phenomenon , the Hayflick limit .
The opportunity to carve our tombstone
Or to be able to write our own epitaph
Or to know the people who are going to weep or moan Or if we will have time to finish eating our favorite blaff .
Living is supposed to be a joyful phenomenon But there are struggles that everyone must overcome The story may be thrilling or a prolegomenon Life is never completely sweet or sour for anyone except rarely for some .
Death has received a bad rap as being the final event Can it ’ s reputation be restored ?
Whether we die of an oncogenic event or failed cardiac stent Can we really keep on stretching a string of violin or the chord ?
Death does not dislodge us from love
But brings us closer by understanding the fragility of life It is an opportunity to pray to our God above For the thrill of living till we meet our Maker after all the strife .
Did we act with recklessness in adversity Or did we accept life by reacting with aplomb and equanimity ?
