PAYING IT FORWARD
Dr . Linda Gleis has served on the GLMS Foundation Board since 1990 for a total of 33 years ! During her years of service , Dr . Gleis has led our Scholarship Committee as Co-Chair from the very beginning . She has been absolutely instrumental in developing and growing the amount and number of scholarships for University of Louisville medical students through the Doctor ’ s Cup annual golf tournament . To date , we have awarded over $ 600,000 in scholarships to many worthy and grateful medical students thanks to Dr . Gleis ’ herculean efforts , attention to detail and her deep desire to give back to the next generation . Let ’ s have a great , big standing ovation for Dr . Gleis ! Thank you so much for all you have done to contribute your time , talent and treasure to our Foundation ’ s worthy causes .
What can we say about Dr . Tom Reichard ? He has been an absolute cornerstone and mainstay as the Chair of the GLMS Foundation since 1996 and has served as a board member for even longer . Dr . Reichard has navigated the Foundation through many seasons with enormous success , including giving birth to and nurturing Supplies Over Seas and the ongoing advancement of The Healing Place . More recently , he has overseen the strategic transformation and alignment of the Foundation with a new generation of physicians . A big round of applause for Dr . Reichard , a medical society gold standard . Thank you so much for all you ’ ve done and continue to do !
Retired pediatrician , Dr . John Roth , began serving on the GLMS Foundation Board 17 years ago in 2006 , faithfully serving many of those years as Treasurer . Dr . Roth has been absolutely excellent at handling and reporting on the finances of the Foundation . We don ’ t know what we will do without him . But we know one thing , Dr . Roth will be greatly missed . Dr . Roth gets the big picture and is deeply dedicated to benevolence . We can ’ t thank you enough for your steady financial hand , especially through the challenges we faced during the pandemic . Here ’ s to you , Dr . Roth !
Dr . David Watkins , the only GLMS former President who also happened to be a professional baseball player ( he even has a bat with his name on it at the Slugger Museum ), has graciously served the GLMS Foundation Board since 2011 , serving as a Foundation executive officer for much of those years . Dr . Watkins also Co-Chaired the Scholarship Committee and has worked tirelessly on the Doctor ’ s Cup . Dr . Watkins and his wife , Sharon , to this day continue to show up to nearly all GLMS and Foundation events with their big hearts and warm smiles that positively light up the room . Dr . Watkins , thanks for everything , not to mention your continued service on our committees as you rotate off of the Foundation Board . You are so greatly appreciated by your colleagues and our staff .
Dr . Ali Farooqui got involved with the GLMS Foundation while he was in training - a shining testament to his desire to serve his colleagues and the community . Dr . Farooqui joined the Foundation board in 2019 , helping us through the strategic planning process . Most recently , Dr . Farooqui has been diligently serving on both the Physician Wellness Committee and the new Doctors ’ Ball Committee . After his training , Dr . Farooqui joined the private practice of former GLMS President , Dr . Randy Schrodt . Now that Dr . Farooqui has been elected as a 2023 GLMS At-Large Board member , he is rotating off of the Foundation Board to begin working more on the advocacy side of organized medicine . Lucky for us , Dr . Farooqui plans to maintain his active work on our charitable Foundation committees . Thank you for your continued dedication and service , Dr . Farooqui !
